From the Commodore  -- October / November 2008

PCKC held it’s annual meeting on Saturday, October 4, 2008.  Attendance was sparse, but we conducted the following business.

1)

  1. Your new officers are:
    • Commodore, Chris Rine
    • Vice Commodore, Al Frisch
    • Treasurer, Jim Beran
    • Secretary, Rick Collins
  2. The treasurer’s report was discussed.  For info or a copy of the financial summary contact me at commodore@pckc.org.
  3. We talked about charitable donations and voted to put a $500.00 cap on yearly donations.
  4.  We discussed the location for the next WINTER PARTY.   Possible locations are Great Waters Brewing Co in St. Paul (our location last year), the party room at the condo building near Lake Calhoun (our location for several previous years) or somewhere new.  Please let me know your opinions or suggestions.  It will be held SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 2009, the same weekend as the Mpls Boat Show, so put it on your calendars now!
  5. We discussed making a lounge for PCKC members at the Clubhouse.   It would be located in the old office area upstairs.   We’d put in a TV and some furniture and make a nice area for members.  The costs would be covered by PCKC and donations from members.  It was voted to proceed with the project contingent on PSMA agreeing to pay the monthly cable charges involved.  We will be asking at a later time for donations, so think about whether you’d like to contribute.  We currently have 95 members registered.  If each member donated even $10.00 we’d have nearly $1000.00 toward the project!  Contact me if you have questions, ideas or want to donate.
  6. We discussed getting a stove for the Clubhouse, but members felt the lounge area was a more appropriate goal for now.

Please get your yearly dues of $25.00 sent to us.  You can mail them to Treasurer Jim Beran at “ PCKC, c/of Jim Beran, Shred Right, 862 Hersey St, St. Paul, MN, 55114”.  We will NOT be sending out a separate mailing/billing this year, so please do it now while you’re thinking about it!   If you have questions about whether you are paid or not, contact Jim at treasurer@pckc.org.  If you have new information for the membership list, or are unsure if we have your full information, please download the attached membership renewal form, complete it and send it in with your check.

That’s it for meeting news.  If you have any questions or would like to see the meeting minutes or financial summary, please contact me.

CHILI FEED
Saturday, October 18

PCKC will host a Chili feed on Saturday, October 18th at noon upstairs at the clubhouse at Port Superior Marina.  If you’re there working on your boats, stop by for a great hot lunch!

E-MAILED NEWSLETTERS

I’m still hearing from some of you that you’re not getting information on news/events regarding PCKC.  Just as a reminder, the information is being posted on our PCKC Board in the Clubhouse and also on the website at www.pckc.org.  In addition, starting with this newsletter, I will be e-mailing the monthly news from the commodore.  If you are reading this notice elsewhere and didn’t get an email from us but think you should have, let me know so we can update our records!

BENEFITS OF PCKC MEMBERSHIP

One of the benefits of PCKC Membership is the reciprocity we share with other yacht clubs who are members of the Yacht Club of America.  If you are traveling, this reciprocity allows you access to these other clubs and use of their facilities.  If you’d like a list of the clubs included, contact me at commodore@pckc.org or Jim Beran at treasurer@pckc.org.

PCKC is also a member of Boat US Cooperating Groups.  With this membership, PCKC members are eligible for a 50% discount on Boat US dues.  Contact me or Jim Beran for the group number to use when renewing.

OTHER NEWS

A thank you goes out to Jean Schmitzer, who donated a rug sweeper to the Clubhouse for clean up use.  It’s located in the smaller office area upstairs.  Please feel free to use it to help keep the clubhouse floor clean!

As always, please contact me with any questions, thoughts or suggestions you might have.  Have a great fall!

Your Commodore,

Chris Rine
