The initial concept for PCKC came from a small group including John Maloney, Don Bergstedt, Bob Buscher, Mark Suby and Mike Sikorra in early 1987. The fledgling PCKC joined the Lake Superior Yachting Association, United States Yacht Racing Union and affiliated with Boat US, giving PCKC members a discount on Boat US memberships. During 1987 membership grew to 37 families.
John was chairman of the “Credentials Committee” which presumably was responsible for getting the PCKC off the ground. Don Bergstedt was Membership Chairman and ruled on the suitability of membership candidates. Requirements were: An IQ over 60, no convictions of a crime which carries the death penalty in the State of Iowa, a detectable heartbeat and ability to pay the $25 membership fee.
Our membership numbers have waxed and waned since the early years as people have come and gone. This past year we considered dissolving completely but we sincerely missed the Launch and Haul Out Lunches!
Currently we are keeping our membership fees at $35 per year – a true bargain considering we started at $25/year in 1987. Consider joining us (again)!
